Replacing one 50 w halogen bulb, running 24 hours/day, with one LED bulb of equivalent light output saves $84 per annum in electricity costs. Power consumption for lighting is reduced by 88% over traditional incandescent bulbs. This bulb is expected to last at least 30,000 hours or 3.5 years of continuous operation and up to 15 years in normal use. This significantly reduces maintenance costs as well, with a halogen bulb often being replaced every few months.
The saving above is based on one bulb and can add up to a significant saving over a large property. One boutique hotel (eight rooms) we worked with estimated their costs savings to be in excess of $8,000 per annum. A larger property could expect savings in electricity and maintenance in the terms of tens of thousands dollars per annum.
If the bulb is used for 6 hours /day electricity savings are reduced to $21 per annum in electricity costs, but the life of the bulb would now be expected to be 14 years.
